Travel and accommodation information during the COVID-19 pandemic

Italy is welcoming tourists again! We are all set and looking forward to seeing you soon at Borgo Castello Panicaglia! In spite of all the measures we must take, our aim is to ensure your holiday this year is just as relaxing and enjoyable. Here’s what we are doing.

Borgo Castello Panicaglia, situated in a beautifully preserved medieval village, is in a secluded location surrounded by woods and meadows. Alongside offering fantastic panoramas of the landscape, the hotel’s location is ideal in the current pandemic situation – the fewer people living in an area, the lower the risk of infection. As the whole region of Umbria is rural and fairly sparsely populated, it has had relatively few COVID-19 cases and has no new registered infections at the time of writing. Umbria is therefore a very safe place for tourists.

Most activities at Borgo take place outdoors, where the risk of infection is much lower than indoors. We have also worked extremely hard to make sure we comply with COVID-19 guidelines. For example, we have installed new sun loungers next to the swimming pool and in the rest of the garden to provide enough space for everyone to relax and enjoy the sun and natural surroundings. We have also made the terrace larger, so that we can maintain physical distancing guidelines between tables. Alongside this, we have a very large stock of cleaning products and have hired in more staff to continually clean and disinfect the premises.

Our hotel must follow a number of COVID-19 guidelines – below you will find more information. In terms of lunch and dinner arrangements, rest assured that you will still be able to enjoy delicious Italian dishes seven days a week this summer if you so wish.

Advance online check-in
To make check-in as fast and convenient as possible for you, we are using an online check-in system this season. Before you arrive, you will receive an e-mail containing a link to provide your passport details and inform us of your expected arrival time.

Minor change to check-in and check-out times
You could usually check in from 2:00 PM and check out until 11:00 AM. However, to make sure we can give rooms a deep clean, disinfect them, and thoroughly air them before new guests arrive, guests may check in from 2:30 PM and check out until 10:30 AM. This is our way of ensuring everyone has a safe and pleasant stay.

Changes to our delicious breakfast
From 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, we serve a delicious daily breakfast with fresh and traditionally prepared products from our own kitchen and garden or from local suppliers. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, our breakfast buffet has been redesigned as a table service per family on our spacious terrace. With breakfast included in our room rate, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy a luxurious breakfast.

Eating together while social distancing
Even during the pandemic, we believe that food and eating should be a celebration. Although we won’t be able to dine at our traditional long tables this year, we have made our terrace larger so that every family has enough space. Let’s eat together at a safe social distance!

Lunch: seven days a week
Lunch is served every day at 1:00 PM. Our chefs work as much as possible with products they grow themselves or with products from local growers and farms. Please let us know one day in advance whether you would like to have lunch at the Borgo, so that our chef knows how much he has to buy and can avoid food waste. Lunch is €19.95 for adults and €9.95 for children aged 4 to 11 years. Children aged up to 3 eat for free.

Dinner: seven days a week
Dinner is served around 7:30 to 8:00 PM according to a daily menu. Our chefs prepare different dishes every day of the week. Please let us know one day in advance whether you are joining us for dinner. Dinner is €29.95 for adults and €14.95 for children aged 4 to 11 years. We can also prepare dinner for our youngest guests at an earlier time of 6:00 PM, but please also let us know in advance.

Pizza night
Wednesday night is pizza night at Borgo Castello Panicaglia! Our pizzas are made fresh by our chefs and baked in our authentic stone oven. Before dinner, children can help collect firewood from the nearby forest. They can also choose and arrange their own pizza toppings if they want! Adults can sit back and relax with a glass of wine on the terrace and enjoy a range of pizzas made especially for them. Pizza night is €24.95 for adults and €9.95 for children aged 4 to 11 years.

BBQ night
Saturday and Sunday night is BBQ night! We provide various kinds of meats, salads, grilled vegetables, and other delicious ingredients. If you are vegetarian, please let us know so that we can take this into account. BBQ night is €34.95 for adults and €19.95 for children aged 4 to 11 years.

Allergies
As we want everyone to be able to enjoy our delicious Italian food, we are happy to cater for allergies and dietary preferences on request.

Children’s activities
We aim to run as many children’s activities as possible. However, some activities will need to be changed or replaced by another in order to remain compliant with COVID-19 guidelines and ensure everyone can have fun safely.

Our swimming pool is open
No holiday is complete without some swimming and lazing by the pool, so our swimming pool will be open all day for our guests. However, we do ask guests to follow some additional rules, such as disinfecting hands when entering and leaving the pool area. Guests should also shower before and after swimming – we have installed extra showers to make sure everyone can. The sun loungers are spaced further apart, and a maximum of 30 people can be in or around the pool at the same time, with a maximum of 12 in the water. We do not expect these measures to be a problem at our location. For those who want to enjoy the sun and nature in a quiet spot, there are sun loungers in other places in the garden. We’ve made sure there’s enough room for everyone to relax.

Face coverings:
You do not need to wear a face covering at any outdoor location – simply enjoy the terrace, garden, or pool as you normally would. Face coverings are only compulsory in the hotel’s indoor public areas, but guests rarely use these areas.

Umbria’s social distancing guideline is 1 metre, not 1.5 metres as in other countries.

When you are in Umbria, you must maintain a physical distance of 1 metre from people who are not part of your household.

We hope you have a smooth trip to Italy and look forward to welcoming you at Borgo Castello Panicaglia.
